Sunday we went to Mammoth Hot Springs to see, yep, more geysers. These created cliffs of travertine - you know, the stuff used for countertops and tiles. Neat stuff - too bad we got caught out in the rain.

Frankly, I thought I’d be eating a hamburger a day on this trip. Most of the Chowhound and Roadfood tips we found along our travel routes were for burger joints. But somehow we avoided getting burgers until today. They were worth the wait. We left the park and went to Helen’s Corral in Gardiner, Montana. We both ordered bison burgers and got sides of fried mushrooms and sweet potato fries. Good stuff. (A note to our parents: we didn’t finish eating the fried stuff. And mushrooms are a vegetable. And sweet potatoes have nutrients.)

After lunch, we went to Norris Basin for, yep, even more geysers. I’m convinced that if Yellowstone wasn’t a national park, it would be a Superfund site, what with all of the sulfur and colorful bacteria laying around.

Dinner was in the Canyon Lodge after an exciting round of laundry. Juliet had an OK pork tenderloin, but my buffalo pot roast was like rubber. Not good. Glad we didn’t wait 45 minutes to get in the other night.
